Poetry is subversive.
Hello, and welcome! Poetry allows us the space to challenge the dominant paradigm; we can uproot systems of power that oppress and stifle. We can demand change. We can come together as a community of artists and create something revolutionary. In this spirit, I strive to craft diverse and impactful poetry for readers in northern Minnesota and beyond, and especially love writing about my home near the North Shore. A wholehearted thank you for your interest in my writing projects. This site has been carefully cultivated to be a safe space. This community renounces white supremacy, fascism, and systemic oppression in its many intersectional forms. You are vitally needed and warmly invited to explore here.
Land Acknowledgment:
I live and work on the traditional, ancestral, and contemporary land of Indigenous peoples, such as the Lake Superior Anishinaabe (Ojibwe), and many others. A land acknowledgment is only a first step in honoring the sovereignty of Native American nations within the US, and learning from and building relationships with Native American peoples upon whose traditional land Duluth and its surrounding communities reside. In an effort to honor the sovereignty of all Indigenous nations, their lands, and their waters, I recognize that these boundaries and territories are representations of the Sacred, and am committed to an ongoing process of humility, collaboration, growth, and learning. This desire aligns with an effort to update and replace information that is a perpetuation of intergenerational and historical trauma, caused by countless factors within a dominant culture that engages in and continually benefits from acts of violence including white supremacy, ethnocentrism, colonization, and colonialism. This acknowledgment reflects a humble and genuine intention to take steps as I can, and to honor Indigenous autonomy, diversity, and resilience since time immemorial.Writing our complex lives, one poem at a time.
Based in the Duluth, Minnesota area, I work to capture the beauty and complexity of life, evoking emotions and inspiring meaningful reflection in my readers. I draw from many life experiences, including having worked with folx navigating addiction, HIV/AIDS, chronic houselessness, severe and persistent mental illness, hospice/end of life, and my time as a trained hospital chaplain. With each piece I write, my goal is to leave a lasting impact and connect with others through the power of storytelling and craft in the time-honored form of poetry.
